DAWN FM AND THE WEEKND

Abel Tesfaye, Dawn FM website

Let's boogie shall we...

The album opens with us tuned into a radio station, which feels eccentric in today’s world where that concept is almost vintage. I think Abel is trying to pull us back to the golden era of the '80s. In the Dawn FM experience on Prime (which is free on YouTube, by the way), we’re brought into this surreal, warehouse-like dance floor, where Abel is unrecognizably aged—maybe 70, or maybe 500. We don’t know how much time has passed, but the same person still haunts his mind, rent-free.

It forces me to self-reflect. Maybe it’s time for me to ask myself if there are parts of me that need to "die" or be let go. Abel seems to be grappling with his past mistakes, realizing that they’ve shaped who he’s become. And while I’m still young, I think this serves as a reminder to us all: we should start reflecting on our actions and making changes before it’s too late, before we end up looking back with regret like Abel does.
